Political Program
WHAT WE STAND AND WORK FORSM
The Political Program of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin consists of:
(1) the Party's Platform, which is revised every two years in a lengthy process that starts at the grassroots and culminates at the annual state conventions in even-numbered years; and (2) Resolutions, which come from the grassroots, are adopted at or on behalf of every state convention, and expire no more than about four years after being adopted. Please click HERE for the current Platform and HERE for current Resolutions. |
The Party's Political Program is determined from the grassroots by the Party's 8000+ members. The Program defines the Party's primary purpose: to have implemented, in law and governmental policy and practice, positions determined by the Party's membership. The membership expects candidates, whom the Party supports, to support the Program in their campaigns for public office. The membership expects as well that the Party's leaders and the officeholders, whom the Party helped to gain office, will work to have the Program implemented. The Program also includes matters of Party governance that the Party's membership determines and expects the Party's leaders to follow and implement. The Party's members are assisted in the process of determining the Party's Political Program by the Party's statewide, member-elected Platform and Resolutions Committee. For information on this Committee, click HERE. This Committee's work is reviewed, debated, and adopted, sometimes with changes, by the approximately 700 member-delegates, representing all the members, at the Party's state conventions.
Various rules, procedures and policies concern the Party's Political Program,
its Platform and Resolutions Committee, and protections to insure that the
Political Program is determined from the grassroots by the Party's members.

ABOUT THIS WEBSITE Thank you for visiting! Hopefully you will find the site to be interesting and useful. The site was created and is maintained and paid for by yours truly, Bill Scanlon. No candidate, candidate's committee, political party committee, or other organization has authorized, paid for, or otherwise been involved with the site. It is a labor of love. As to my background that is relevant to this site: I am a Wisconsin community and political activist and Democrat. I have been involved as a volunteer or member with the Democratic Party, in Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and California, for over 40 years. I have served the Party in Wisconsin at local, county, congressional district and state levels in many roles, including my favorite one, being in touch with people as a ward organizer. I have been serving as a member of the State Party's Platform and Resolutions Committee for seven years and served as its chairperson from 2000 to 2004. I am proud to be a Wisconsin Democrat. This is primarily because of the Political Program the Party's members have established democratically to give the Party purpose. I have created and maintain this site so that this Political Program, and its basis in the Party's membership at the grassroots, can be more widely known everywhere, especially in the State I love. I welcome your comments. Please click here to send them. Again, thank you for visiting! |
